On 17 and 24 May 2025, two groups of young Polish and Ukrainian students from two secondary schools in Gdańsk – I LO and XIX LO – participated in engaging workshops about the exciting world of Greek mythology as part of project CITADEL.
The event took place on the premises of Gdańsk University at the Faculty of Languages. The objective was to introduce the participants to the fascinating plot of Homer’s Iliad and to invite them to share their perception of the main characters as well as the universal message of the Greek epic. The ultimate goal was to involve the young participants in the creation of a digital game based on the storyline of the Iliad.
After having been visited by Homer himself, from whom the students learnt some intriguing facts about the ancient world, the participants sat down to discuss the male and female characters from the Iliad to draw their psychological portraits. They also analysed the impact of their decisions on the development of the story and speculated about the relevance of the issues raised in the Iliad to the contemporary world. The students familiarised themselves with the characters through famous paintings featuring Greek gods, goddesses and heroes , solved puzzles and quizzes, and broke out of escape rooms to finally contribute to the development of the digital game which will give young people the opportunity to immerse themselves in the mysterious and enchanting world of Greek mythology.
